Artport is the only revolving public art display in an airport setting in America. This regional art exposition, housed at the Shreveport Regional Airport, features a collection of original artwork from 100 local and regional artists. The show revolves over a two-three year period. Each show is themed, providing artists guidelines for representation, but at the same time open interpretation. The show is installed amongst the walls of the airport atrium and airline corridors, offering beautification for the property and a gallery of work available for purchase by residents and visitors to the Shreveport-Bossier City area.
In October 1990, the Airport Beautification Committee challenged Artport to open the first showing in time to greet travelers to the Independence Bowl. It was a huge success. From its simple beginnings, Artport has grown to impressive proportions. The 2012 show was the fourteenth installment and attracted an over 2,000-person crowd opening night.
